Cool Your Home
Whether or not you spend most of your day at home, it’s important to keep your house cool during the summer. Make sure your cooling appliances, especially your air conditioner and fans, are in great working condition. Additionally, you can keep your house cool by simply closing the curtains, blinds, or shades during the day and opening them along with the windows at night.
Wear Appropriate Clothing
During the summer, you can fight off the heat by wearing clothes made from a lightweight, breathable, and light-colored material. A good example is a white cotton shirt, which is comfortable and light, can absorb moisture but dries quickly, and can reflect light. For good measure, you should also wear accessories, such as a hat and sunglasses, and use sunscreens to protect yourself from the harmful rays of the sun. Of course, the right clothing will be useless if you don’t regularly take a shower.
Replenish Your Fluids
As you’ll probably be doing a lot of outdoor activities during summer, you need to ensure your body is well hydrated. The best way to do this is still to drink plenty of water. Your 8 to 10 glasses per day, however, may not be enough this season. It’s recommended that you drink up to two glasses for every hour spent out in the summer sun. Aside from water, you can also replenish your fluids by eating water-rich fruits and vegetables like watermelon, coconut, celery, and cucumber.
